FoxClone

Live Boot Disk Cloning Imaging & Restore

Overview

FoxClone is a simple, menu-driven tool for cloning entire drives or creating/restoring compressed disk images. It’s perfect for migrating HDD → SSD, making full backups before repairs, or restoring a failed disk quickly.

Quick Start:
  1. Boot the PC from the FoxClone entry on your USB.
  2. Choose the desired action (e.g., Clone Disk or Create Image).
  3. Select the source and destination carefully, confirm, and let it run.
  4. When finished, shut down, disconnect the USB, and boot from the internal drive.

Use Cases

📀 Disk → Disk Clone (migrate HDD → SSD)
  1. Attach the new target drive (internal or via USB-to-SATA adapter).
  2. Boot into FoxClone from your USB and open the cloning menu.
  3. Select Clone Disk → choose your Source (old drive) and Destination (new drive).
  4. Review the summary and confirm. Warning: Destination will be overwritten.
  5. When finished, power off, remove the old drive (or change boot order), and boot from the new drive.
⚠️ Tip: If the new SSD is larger, you may later expand the main partition with a partition editor (e.g., GParted).
🧰 Create a Full Image Backup (to external USB)
  1. Connect a large external USB drive for storing the image file.
  2. Boot FoxClone → choose Create Image.
  3. Select the Source disk to back up and the Destination path on the external drive.
  4. Choose compression (if offered), confirm, and start the image job.
  5. Safely shut down when done; keep the image for future restores or upgrades.
Notes:
  • Images are great before risky repairs or OS upgrades.
  • Label the image with the PC name/date to track versions.
♻️ Restore an Image (after replacing a failed drive)
  1. Install the new/blank drive in the PC and connect the USB drive that contains your FoxClone image.
  2. Boot FoxClone → choose Restore Image.
  3. Pick the image file as Source and the new blank drive as Destination.
  4. Confirm the summary and start restore. When done, shut down and boot from the internal drive.
  5. (Optional) If the new drive is larger, expand the main partition afterwards.

Additional Resources

✅ Great for whole-disk clones and image-based backups/restores. ⚠️ Ensure any encrypted volumes (e.g., BitLocker) are handled appropriately; cloning does not decrypt. 💡 Need partition resizing or advanced repair? Use SystemRescue/GParted after cloning.

Tip: Always double-check the destination drive before cloning—cloning is destructive to the target. Keep at least one known-good backup image on a separate disk.
